Beer Olympics And Bad Golf Still Counts

LeBron to Philadelphia, Vikings roster moves, WNBA love, and a surprisingly honest dad talk all land in the same place: what you choose to pay attention to is what your life starts to feel like. I’m coming off a packed weekend of golf, hometown tradition at the water carnival, Beer Olympics with friends, and coaching my daughters in a summer basketball tournament, and it all ties back to the same lesson. Kids don’t remember what you bought, they remember that you showed up.
On the football side, I dig into Minnesota Vikings updates including the Jamal Adams signing, what veteran physicality can add to Brian Flores’ defense, and why the Brian O’Neill extension matters if this offense wants any stability. I also walk through a schedule reality check and what it might take to actually survive the NFC North.
Then we hit the hoops headlines. I’m saying it with my chest: the WNBA is some of the most entertaining basketball on TV right now, and the Minnesota Lynx deserve more attention. On the NBA front, I break down why LeBron James choosing the Philadelphia 76ers instantly changes the power dynamics, how “LeBron’s team” works, and what health and chemistry mean when a contender is trying to get over the hump.
To close, I run a ChatGPT top 10 greatest sports comebacks list, drop a hot take about debate culture replacing real game-watching, and ask you a question I actually want you to answer: what memory do you hope your kids have of you someday? Busy Weekend And Golf Recap
SPEAKER_00Got a little busy. Welcome back to the Rough Bunker Sports Podcast. I'm your host, Tony Antonudi. Just touching on a couple things today. We're gonna get into some Viking stuff. They made some signings. We'll get into obviously LeBron since he made his decision. Uh we'll go ahead and we'll talk uh some other stuff going on uh in sports and in life, just in general. And then we have a top 10 list according to Chat GPT of the top 10 greatest sports comebacks ever. So we'll discuss that and we can move forward on that kind of stuff. Just touching on some things here. I had a pretty busy weekend, just to recap of some stuff. Since I didn't put an episode out last week, uh I have to put one out kind of in the middle of the week this week, unfortunately. But we had my family and I, and myself and my friends, and everybody else. We had a pretty busy weekend. Normally I put an episode out on Friday, just didn't really have any kind of free time, uh, which was good, good and bad, you know. Uh whatever. It is what it is. But here's your episode, episode eight. Friday morning, I went golfing with the Mr. Tony Carillo, other half of the Boss Two Boys. We went over to the Masaba Country Club in Hibbing here, and it was it was a good time. Uh, I've never golfed that course. It's beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Probably the nicest course I've been on all summer. Did some pretty decent things, did some pretty shitty things. Obviously, my golf game hasn't improved too much, but it was still a good time. It was you know, Tony and I always have a good time golfing, bullshitting, hitting golf balls around. It was it was fun, it was a lot of fun. Obviously, it wasn't something that I was too anxious about. It was hot, it was definitely hot, uh. But still, still a really, really good time. We did have his Beer Olympics on Saturday. So Friday evening, trying to remember what what the hell we did Friday evening. Man, it's escaping
Water Carnival And Softball Reality
SPEAKER_00me. Oh, yeah, we went up to the White Lakes Water Carnival. That was this weekend. Kind of shitty weather, but we did want to go up and support some friends and hang out. You know, I I've been going up to the water carnival since I was 15, 16 years old. This is the third time ever in my softball life that I didn't play up there. So it was it was hard. It was it was really hard for me to kind of stand around and watch knowing that I'm not going to be playing at all. I guess, you know, as I get older, I know my wife doesn't want me to play and you know get hurt or be, you know, do anything stupid like I normally do when I play softball with my friends. You know, it's been the last few years where somebody or a couple people have gotten hurt. Unfortunately, we had a guy break his leg a couple years ago in that same weekend. We had a friend or two people that we knew collided in the outfield for it was a pretty serious, pretty serious injury for both parties that collided with each other that same same weekend on that same team. The pitcher took one off the chest. So, I mean, uh as we get older, obviously we're not as athletic, we don't stretch, we're our our bodies just don't want to do the things that we used to be able to do. Do I think I could still play? Probably. I probably could still play. I could probably step in there and and do what I think is needed to be done for the amount of effort that I want to put in for it. I I think I could still do it. I mean that being said, I'm watching these games Friday night. And then we drove back up Saturday morning before Tony had his Beer Olympics at his house, which I'll get to in a minute. But we drove back up there Saturday morning to watch another friend play and the Valentinis team play. And just watching some of these games, man, really makes me think that I could definitely do it again, whether it'd be in the infield or outfield or catching is what I normally do. But just watching some of the stuff that was going on was it was pretty it was it was pretty bad. But at the same time, you know, I feel good Monday. I'm not, you know, hobbling around trying to, you know, trying to walk and do all that kind of stuff. So I mean, I do feel better that I don't play anymore and I do spend more money on golf, but you know what? Uh it is what it is. I I think next year we're gonna put it our normal team together, hopefully make one more run at it. Because I I really do think that as a squad we could we could go up there and we could compete a little bit. Well, compete as well as I think we could compete. It's it would be it would be tough, but we always tend to have a great time up there as a group. Uh we all get along pretty well. So I didn't see who won any of the brackets. It I didn't look like any of the local teams that I see won any brackets, but even still, I'm sure everybody up there had a good time. Everybody came home healthy, from what I know. So yeah, I mean, like I said, this is the first or third time in I don't know, 20 some years that I haven't played up there, which which was pretty it was difficult for me at times.
Beer Olympics With Friends And Kids
SPEAKER_00But then moving into Saturday midday and afternoon at over at Curlo's house, we played Beer Olympics. There was a pretty good showing. I mean, it was a great time, obviously, with the group of people that were there. We always have a good time. There were wasn't any drama, there wasn't any, you know, outlandish drunkenness. But it was it was a good time. It was fun for I mean my kids came and my most of my kids participated in the games and did well, and they were the only kids there, but even still, you know, my friends love my kids. My my kids are all older than most of my friends' kids, except for Tony's stepdaughter. Uh there, she's the same age. She's in between my oldest and my oldest daughter. So my son, who's the oldest, and my oldest daughter, she's in between ages on those two. So I mean they always get along, but she wasn't there. She was at a camp and then came back, and then she was at her boyfriend's baseball games on Saturday. So she didn't get there till late. But congratulations to the winners, Jimmy and Bucko of the first annual Carrill Beer Olympics. Hopefully, next year we can get some more people up there and we can have more games and more competition and stuff like that. It should it'll be a good time. So anybody that hears this that's local that wants to come join us or gets invited, definitely make make the effort to come out there and and be a part of it. Not sure what weekend he's gonna do it on, but should be should be a good time.
Coaching Daughters At Basketball Tournament
SPEAKER_00And then we had to wake up Sunday morning and drive down to St. Michael Albertville for basketball for a breakdown tournament for my daughters for the varsity. And our our varsity team did end up taking the championship uh in the in the pool play of what we had. One of the teams unfortunately didn't show up, so we had a intersquad game, and then we split our teams in two and and played games. And I had one group, and the head coach of the team of the program had the other group. He had the the top six normally, and then I had I had the rest. And my girls competed really well. I was really happy with how they competed with other of our city teams, and we played a team from Zimmerman, and then we played a team from Wisconsin, and we did a good job. I mean, we competed and we just we ran out of gas, like that's simple as that. Obviously, AAU refing in the breakdown tournaments. So that's it's not the best, but it's not the worst. Uh there was it was definitely physical, but I I think that benefited us in some ways, and it definitely hindered us in some ways. But overall, uh I was very happy with how my group played through adversity and didn't give up and always hustled and always did all that kind of stuff. So we we did very, very well. We do have another turn breakdown tournament, I believe, coming up here in Mountain Iron Buell. And yeah, it should be a should that's gonna have a lot of competition in it, and we'll we'll see how we how we can react and how we can play there. It's it'll be a good time. I like I like the summer stuff. You know, we kind of got away from it a little bit, but at the same time, it gives the kids a break. It gives the kids a sense of urgency and brings them back kind of refreshed and things like that for the upcoming season. It's not gonna burn them out and they're not gonna hate each other, and they're not gonna, you know, be at each other's throats the whole time. So it'll be it'll be good. And hopefully we can be competitive moving forward, which is always the goal. Biggest goal is for them to all get some time and get on the floor and be competitive and do the things that they need to do to get better because that's what this is all about. The head coach and I always kind of have this mantra of you know, it's it's always more than basketball, it's it's something that we want you obviously to be good at and put work in, but it's it's more than basketball. It's kind of how his dad did it, which was awesome, which I loved. He's who I played for in high school, which I'm sure I've I've said on the podcast before, on this one or on Boss Two Boys. So it's gonna be good. It's gonna be a good season. I think we're gonna be competitive. I think we can compete for a state run, hopefully. If we can keep everybody healthy and keep everybody on task and things like that, and we can play as a team and move the ball, play team defense, should be should be really good, and we should have a really good showing. So, yeah, that's kind of a recap of what's been going
Alaska Cruise Plans And Content Updates
SPEAKER_00on for me. Another thing that I wanted to put out there right away, I probably won't be able to do an episode next week, considering my wife and I will be going on an Alaskan cruise with my father-in-law, which we are both extremely excited for. I'm gonna bring my mini mics and I'm gonna bring some stuff to do some other things on the cruise and keep people kind of up to date on what we're doing and how we're how we're doing and things like that. Hopefully, I can get some stuff out there on Facebook and Instagram, TikTok. It'll be it'll be fun. I'm really excited. You know, I'm I'm kind of a colder person. I like to I like the cold, so Alaska's gonna be gonna be a really good time. It's gonna be the temperature I like. And you know, normally vacations we take, we go like to Mexico or somewhere warm where we can get a tan and stuff like that. But this is kind of a bucketless trip for the both of us. Kind of a bucketless trip for my wife and her mom. And unfortunately, her mom passed away about six years ago or so. So this is a trip that we always wanted to take with her and her husband, which is my father-in-law, which is who's who's going with us on this one. So it'll be it'll be good. The the three of us are gonna have a really good time. I have a feeling it's kind of gonna be uh it'll be a memorable one. I'll take a lot of pictures. My wife will take a bunch of pictures. Obviously, like I said, I'm gonna do some videos and I'm gonna do some some posts on TikTok and Instagram, Facebook, things like that. So I'll keep everybody in the loop and whatnot on that. Show what we're doing and show what I'm doing. So it'll it'll be a really, really good time. And hopefully we can get some content out there. So let's see, just another kind of personal update here.
Vikings Signings And Season Outlook
SPEAKER_00Podcast growth, you know, I we're we're getting there, we're getting more and more listeners every week, and I do appreciate that. Thank you very much. I I appreciate all the listeners, all the follows, all things like that. Um you know, if you if you're enjoying the show, definitely share with share with a friend, share with a family member, share with somebody you think will like it. Share the stuff on Facebook, on Instagram, you know, anything like that. Reach out. Don't forget to comment on things, whether it be TikTok posts or Instagram posts, things like that. Definitely something I'll keep up on and shout people out. I know Nick Zubic, shout out to Nick, he's an avid listener. He always sends me reels of things that are interesting, and him and I debate on it all the time, which is which is awesome. Like I said, kind of the storylines for today. We'll talk about LeBron going to Philly, we'll talk about the Vikings' new signings and extensions, talk about some movies that I wanted to see that are coming out or are out. We'll have some dad talk. Obviously, we'll have a hot take of the week and we'll do a top 10 list, like I said, of the top 10 biggest or best comebacks according to Chat GPT. So just to get in some other things here, we'll get into some football talk here right away. Just looking at the Vikings, I saw that they signed Jamal Adams. Now, Jamal Adams, obviously, I think he's out of his prime, but I do think that he's got some gas left in the tank. I do think that he has some things that the Vikings can utilize. I think that he will slide right in as a contributor right away. Excuse me. He'll slide right in to contribute right away with what uh Flores likes to do. I had to get some water. He will he brings physicality, he brings a veteran presence, he's been to some Pro Bowls, he's he's been an all-pro. He's had a pretty good career. He's obviously at the tail end of his career now, but at the same time, I think it's somebody that can really benefit on that side of the ball for the Vikings. He wears my favorite number. My favorite number is 33. Possibly get that on the Viking squad too, on the defensive side. So it'll be it'll be good. And then we it looks like we extended Brian O'Neal, which is huge for our offensive line. He will he shores up that right side. Hopefully he can stay healthy. Like that's it, that's his biggest issue right now is is health and age. But I know that when he's in, he's definitely a massive contributor to what we want to do, especially on the ground. He is a veteran presence, obviously, in the offensive line that helps with Darisao and our guards and our center and things like that. He's he's gonna be a big, big component for Kyler Murray to be successful, whether that be him in protection or him on the running game or anything like that. He's definitely somebody that we need to have available. And I I I see that there's a lot of people talking about like a quarterback competition in Minnesota. I really don't see it. I really don't, because Kyler is just so much better than JJ McCarthy. It's gonna take some kind of catastrophic injury for him not to start. I just I don't see him taking that away. I don't see him being good enough to steal that starting spot away from JJ McCarthy. I just don't. Unfortunately for JJ, you know, he's he's young still, and hopefully he doesn't get too deterred from it. Maybe we send him away. Maybe we maybe we trade him for some assets, maybe we trade him for some draft picks. I don't know. I I don't I don't know what they're gonna do. But I know KOC's gonna have them ready. Like I've said before, my biggest concern is the running game. They they gotta be able to run the ball. I've been hearing some decent things about this rookie they got. Hopefully, that kid out of wake for us that Demond Claiborne, I think his name is. He he's gonna get some touches. I know you know obviously Aaron Jones is gonna get touches, Mason's gonna get touches, so it's probably gonna be a running back by committee, which is fine. I mean, I think they'll be fine with that. Uh it's just a matter of getting Jefferson and Addison the ball, Hawkinson the ball. So we we definitely can compete in the NFC North. I think people are really sleeping on the Vikings. Now that I look at their roster and I look around to see kind of what the landscape is, you know, Detroit's gonna be decent. They've lost their coordinators, like teams aren't the same after that. Chicago, you know, yeah, Caleb Williams was was good, but wasn't great. I mean, I I wasn't I mean I was impressed with him. He had a good season, but I mean it wasn't any it wasn't anything to really, you know, wow me. It just it it just wasn't. And you know, Green Bay is gonna be Green Bay. It's just a matter of us being able to stay healthy. We're the it's the best division in football, and you're gonna have to have 11, 12, 13 wins to make the playoffs. So we'll we'll see. I mean, the schedule is tough. You open with Green Bay at home, then you're in Chicago, in Tampa, and you host the Dolphins, and you're in New Orleans, and you host the Colts. I mean, that could be three losses. We could be 0-3 after after three weeks. We really could. You know, Green Bay is gonna be good, but normally Jordan Love starts slow. I'd rather play in Chicago in September than in December when it's you know 30 below and windy and snowing in Chicago, so that that helps us. But then you also go to Tampa, where it's hot, humid, you know, you're not used to that as a as a Vikings player. You know, going down there, you're facing Baker Mayfield, you're facing the heat and the weather and stuff like that. And then you luckily you get Miami at home, and then you go to the Saints, you know, Colts are good, then you go to Detroit, and we have the Bills, and then we have the Packers again in Lamble in November, which should be a decent game. Then we have the 49ers and then the Falcons and the Panthers, and then we're in New England, which is going to be tough. They were a Super Bowl team last year. Then we have Detroit again, Washington, then we're at the Jets, and we finish the season at home against the Bears. And honestly, that game right there could decide the division. It it could. I mean, even our game three weeks before that against Detroit, that that could decide the division. So we'll we'll see how it goes. We'll see what Caleb what what Kyler Murray can do. We're gonna see how that goes. And as long as our offensive and defensive lines can stay healthy, we're gonna be okay. We will be okay. We will be competitive, we will be competing for a division title. And that's what I'm that's what I'm excited for.
WNBA Love And Lynx Praise
SPEAKER_00It recently was the WNBA All-Star game. I know a lot of people don't like talking about it because you know, oh, women's basketball, it's boring, it's this, it's that. It's one of the most exciting things on TV right now. Sorry, it just is. You can hate me or love me, it don't matter. The WMBA is one of the most entertaining things going on in sports right now. And the Lynx are the best team in the league. And their best player, their MVP candidate every single year has played like two games, and we're still 23 and six. We have arguably the best rookie to ever play in the WNBA on the team right now, in Olivia Miles. She is so damn impressive, it's unreal. She's doing things that a lot of rookies or any rookies have ever done. We're she's doing things that are incredible: scoring, passing, defense, things like that. Like it's unbelievable the things that she's doing. And you know, Caitlin Clark's no slow either again. She's having a great season. She's getting the shit kicked out of her again, which is unfortunate, but she is. She's getting the shit kicked out of her. The only games that we've lost are the Suns or the Sun, Connecticut Sun, the Liberty, I mean, and those are teams that have been in the WNBA finals the last few years. The Mystics and the Aces. You know, the Aces won it last year, knocked us out, and the Chicago Sky. So I mean, it's not like we're losing to teams that are shit. Ozzie Fudd, She won the three-point challenge for the WNBA in the all-star break. She's a great rookie, also, obviously. She was number one pick for a reason. She's doing a great job. Hopefully the Lynx can keep the momentum going, get into the playoffs, and uh, you know, compete for a compete for a championship again.
LeBron Chooses Philly And Why
SPEAKER_00So now I'll move on to LeBron. And I don't even under I don't know. I don't know how I feel. I don't I don't know exactly how I feel about his decision. Because you know, Philly Philly has man. Philly traded for Jalen Brown. Jalen Brown wanted his own team, and he had it. Kind of. He kind of had his own team in Philly. You know, obviously Embiid's there, Maxie's there, Edgecombe's there. But essentially he went to Philly for it to be his team. Now LeBron going there, it's LeBron's team. I don't care where LeBron goes, it's LeBron's team. Do I think that he should have chosen something else? Maybe. I think he chose Philly because they have adults on the team. They have veterans. You know, Maxie's a veteran. He's got eight years. Seven years. Seven or eight years. Jalen Brown's a veteran. You know, former Eastern Conference MVP, finals MVP, you know, Embiid is he's a veteran. So I mean, he has adults on the team. I wish he would have signed with the Timberwolves, obviously. I'm because I'm a Timberwolves fan. But we are a bunch of kids. You know, Anthony Edwards is young, Lamello obviously is young. Jaden McDaniels is young. DeSumo's young. The only like real veteran on the team is Gobert. And I don't think he thinks he can win with Gobert. Plus, the West is extremely stacked, very top heavy, but stacked with you know, obviously, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Denver, us, the Lakers. So I mean it's it's very top heavy. Where the East is a little bit easier, just because you know, you do have the Knicks, you do have, you know, Philadelphia, you have Boston. So I mean, he could have gone to Golden State and played with Steph, but that team's not winning a championship. And I don't fault him for going to Philly because I think they are ready. They just need that little bit of a push to get over that hump. But it's the same with the Timberwolves. He could have came to the Timberwolves and done something that nobody's ever done before. He could have came to the Timberwolves and won a championship the first ever in Minnesota. But you know, he he wasn't going to Cleveland. He's done that. He's he's been there, done that. You know, I know it's home. But there again, he he doesn't want to go back there. He didn't want to go to Miami, been there, done that. He just, you know, he's been to South Beach. I think he wanted a different kind of legacy now going to Philadelphia. Because I think he really looked up to Kobe also. I don't think anybody's really said this, but he he was obviously a very big Kobe supporter and a very big Kobe fan. And you know, Kobe was from over there, and that's kind of his that was his childhood team before he got drafted to the Lakers. I think he wanted to play in Philly. So I that might maybe that's got kind of an underlying to it. But you know, getting back to Philly being a contender, I I think they will be. I I I I think they will be. It just depends on health, obviously. LeBron's 42. He's he's old. He's not I wouldn't say he's brittle, but he's he's definitely not a young player anymore. Being 42, you know, he takes care of his body, but at the same time, your body can only take so much. So we'll see. We'll see what happens and we'll see. We'll see if they're competitive, we'll see if they're gonna compete in the East, because it's gonna take a minute for them to gel, obviously. But who knows? The landscape of the NBA is so much different, especially with these rookie class is gonna be really good, like I've said before, but they should be alright. Philly should be good.
Movies And Shows Worth Watching
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna move on to another to my entertain to an entertainment segment here. Uh there's a bunch of movies that I'm that I'm trying to see. Obviously, the Odyssey is out. My wife and I are gonna go see that this week uh before we go on vacation. We we both really want to see it. My son said it's really good, but we we want to go see that in theaters. You know, we we could watch it on my buddy's VC box, but it's something that I think I need to experience in a movie theater, especially with the sound and the the music and the cinematography and things like that. I want to see it on the big screen. You know, obviously the cast is is really good between Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Ann Hathaway, Travis Scott narrating, Robert Pattinson, Corey Hawkins. Who else is in that? That is kind of big. I'm trying to think here. Anyway, there's a lot of it's a star-studded cast. Like it really, really, really is. The Spider-Man movie comes out soon. My son's really excited for that. Uh, the other one that I want to see that's in theaters obviously isn't the live-action Moana. I haven't heard anything about it, but it's got the rock in it. Anything with the rock in it, my daughter Chloe and I want to see because he's amazing. He's the best human on the planet. I've heard things about, you know, Kevin Hart's 72 hours, like that comedy. And I'll probably see it when it comes out. I I don't know if I'm gonna take the time to go to a movie theater and see that. I'm not sure. I'm hoping I can watch my episode of House of the Dragon soon, so I can finish that, catch up on that. I'm a huge fan of that. I just I I love it. My aunt loved it. We made it a we made it a weekly thing that I we'd go over there and we'd watch it with her when she was still around. Uh so now it's kind of a tradition type deal for me where I I need to watch it and I need to just remember her as kind of how I feel about it. Kind of TV shows that I've been watching. I've kind of been re-watching a lot of stuff. I've I've rewatched Band of Brothers, fantastic fucking show. That that never gets old. I usually rewatch like Cartel Narcos Mexico before we go on vacation because we're always going to vacation to Mexico, but I didn't this year. True Detective. I have to I'm re-watching the first season right now of that. Fantastic show. I don't know, there's not really much else that I'm kind of thinking of watching. There, there's there isn't a lot of stuff on TV that really makes me excited. I do know coming soon, obviously, like I said, as a Spider-Man movie, the new trailer for Doomsday was phenomenal. I mean, it almost broke the internet. So I mean that's gonna be really good with Doctor Doom and Thor and the X-Men and uh, you know, all that Marvel stuff. It's gonna be it's gonna be really, really good. Really, really good. Also let's see here.
Dad Talk About Time And Presence
SPEAKER_00You know, I being with the kids this weekend at that tournament kind of kind of reminds me. I mean, we can just get into the dad talk right now. They'll remember us. My kids will remember us bringing them places or doing things with them more than they will if we spend a bunch of money on them on on just random useless things. I rem I remember things from when I was a kid where there was no money involved. There was no there wasn't any sort of price tag on things. Like you remember things like going to the beach or going to going fishing or going, you know, it's hanging out. Like, and I think my kids are finally realizing that as they get older, that the more time you spend with people, the more memories you'll make. It's not necessarily about how much money is spent on what you're doing, it's how many or how much you spend time with a person. Like time is money. Like my kids being at my friend's house on Saturday meant more to me and them than us going somewhere or doing something of like that, where you know, going to a water park, going to Disney or you know, things like that, where kids remember time and not money. And I'm hoping they can they can get into the traditions of things. Like they're important, like like Hoyt Lakes for me, like the Hoyt Lakes Water Carnival, it's kind of a tradition to go up there and hang out and play softball and be around your friends and be around you know friends that become make become family. So, I mean, that's kind of a tradition, you know, the tradition of us going to Black Duck for Labor Day. Like, I'm hoping that that never stops because that's that tradition's important, and we get to spend time with each other, and we it's like the last big hurrah before school starts. Kind of, you know, and then me golfing, you know, it's become a hobby now, and it's important to me. Like, dads need hobbies. Like every dad needs a hobby, every mom needs a hobby. Every I should say, every parent needs a hobby, whether that be golf or reading or you know, picking berries or you know, going to a friend's house and playing cards or stuff like that. Like hobbies are important, kind of lets you de-stress and it lets you have your own time for things and make friends and make memories and things like that. Because it it balances, you know, the work family, you know, it balances that out. Like you need a good work life balance, and you need those hobbies when you have that good work life balance. You know, balancing work family and personal goals. Like obviously, like this podcast for me is a personal goal. And balancing it out where I want to spend time with my family, and I want to obviously I have to go to work, then and it's all important. But this per there, it's a personal goal of mine to record this once a week. And sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. You know, if I don't, it's because I have something else that's more important going on that means more to me, that's that takes a higher precedence than this podcast. Because the podcast for me is it's fun. I enjoy this. I I get to talk, I love talking. But like Friday, I played golf and then I went up to the water carnival. That was it was more important to me. So having that balance of you know, work, family, and personal goals is is good. And it's it's a really, really important. And you know, the the being present in your kids' lives or in your wife's or significant other's life is is is another big one. You have to be present instead of perfect. Nobody's perfect. I don't care how much money you have, I don't care what your job is, I don't care any of that kind of stuff. Like you need to be present. I made it a goal of mine very early in my kids' lives that I was going to be a present father, whether that meant coaching or being at games or being at school functions or anything that they needed me at. Anything that that I felt that was important to me as a child, I wanted to be present for my kid, whether they didn't think it was important or not, like Special Persons Day or a concert for school or a field day or something just as minor as you know a sports banquet or a sporting game that I don't exactly like, but I'm going to support them and I will be present and I will be there, and I will be the biggest cheerleader that they have. And that's that's why I've always made it a very big point of mine to be a present father, like a present dad. And I'm I know my wife busts her ass and does the same thing, like she works harder than anybody that I know. She has a work ethic like nobody else, but she is present, like she is there. When her kids need her, she is there. When I need her, she is there. Even when I don't need her, she is there. Even when my kids don't need her, she is there. She is a present wife and mom. And I think it's very important. It's it's extremely important because your kids remember that. Kids will kids always remember that. They will always, always, always, always remember. I remember when my mom and my aunt were at everything of mine. Everything. They didn't really like coming to football because it was too violent for them. But they were at every band concert. You know, when they could make it to basketball games, I made it to basketball games, football was not there, baseball, you know, all those kind of things, they were there. They were present. PTA meetings. Shit. My mom even came to school one day with me because she had to be a present parent because I wasn't doing what I needed to do in school. But she was there, she made it. She was there early with bells on, even though I did not like it and I was extremely embarrassed. But you know what? I will never forget that ever. So, what's one memory you hope your kids have of you someday? Comment, let me know. Tell me what you think, tell me what memory you hope that your kids have of you someday, or a memory that you have of your parents from when you were a kid. Just shoot me a message, comment on the episode, whatever you need to do, let me know. Uh then I'll like I said, I'll give you a shout-out in the next episode, or I'll shout you out when I'm on the the cruise in Alaska. So moving on, we have our top 10
Top Sports Comebacks Ranked By ChatGPT
SPEAKER_00list. Now, like I said, this is according to Chat GPT, so it's not exactly my list, but we're going to go over the top 10 greatest comebacks ever in it looks like in sports. So, number 10, number 10, Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 finals, down 3-1 to the Warriors coming back and winning. Now, that kind of cemented for me personally, LeBron being the greatest basketball player ever. I know Kyrie hit the winning shot. I know I get that. But for LeBron to do the things that he did in that series to get them to win, second to none. Michael Jordan never did that. I understand Michael Jordan never had a game seven, he was never down 3-1, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But for what LeBron had to do physically, mentally, and athletically to get them back to bring them a championship to Cleveland, phenomenal. It was phenomenal. Now I don't know much about this one, but it's Tiger Woods 2019 Masters. I don't remember if he was down or not, must have been. So, like I said, I'm not I'm not going to touch on that too much. Number eight was the Minneapolis Miracle or Minnesota Miracle when Stephon Diggs caught that ball from Case Keenum, ran up the sideline. I had a couple buddies at that game. One of them was in the bathroom at the urinal, pissing before he had to leave. He said that it was so loud in that bathroom it shook the walls. And I believe it. That safety for the Saints, was it the Saints? I think it was the Saints. He went to undercut Diggs on that catch. Diggs caught it, ran up the sideline. I was in my car and almost went in the ditch. So it was pretty impressive. Uh no, this is way too low for me because this would be top three for me. Patriots against the Falcons in the Super Bowl coming back from 28-3 and winning. If you didn't think Tom Brady was the best quarterback of all time after that, doing that in the Super Bowl, I don't know what to tell you. I don't know what to tell you because that was the that was the single greatest comeback in a football game, in a Super Bowl that I've ever witnessed. Me personally watching that is the best comeback in a football game in the Super Bowl ever. Number six, it says Kurt Warner's NFL career. And I I guess I can get behind that. I mean, he was in a supermarket throwing paper towel roll paper towel rolls to other employees, and then came out, got the job as as the starter for the Rams, and then went to the Super Bowl and won it. Cinderella story. He goes then to Arizona with Larry Fitzgerald and helps them to a Super Bowl. You know, he he I guess, yes and no. Impressive on what he did. Dude had an arm, dude had talent, definitely overlooked. But yeah. Number five, they have Michael Jordan's return to basketball. I don't know. The Bulls were good without him. They went to the Eastern Conference Finals, they lost to Orlando. He comes back, they lose to Orlando again. Or no, they didn't lose to Orlando, did they? Yeah, they did. Who'd they lose to that year? I don't remember who they lost to. The first year he was gone. Anyway, they lost in the Eastern Conference Finals. Then he came back, then they lost some of the magic, and then they rattled off three straight more. I I don't know if it's a greatest comeback ever or greatest comeback story ever. I don't know. I don't think they're beating Houston those two years. They didn't have anybody to compete with Elajuan. You can debate me on that. Uh they have number four as Kirk Gibson's 1988 World Series. I'm assuming that's when he hit that home run and trotter on the bases, pumping his fists. Like, I don't, I wasn't alive really, or I was alive, I wasn't watching baseball at one year's old. Uh number three, 2004 Red Sox ALCS coming back. I think they were down 3-0. That's impressive. Like, that's really impressive. Baseball's hard. And to be able to come back and win that series, to go to the World Series to win it, that's hard. Like nobody thought they were gonna do that. Nobody. I don't care who you are, nobody thought they were gonna come back and win that series. When they won game two, I remember even for how young I was, I'm like, they're winning the whole thing. Like they were down 3-2 at the point at that point. And after they won game, I'm sorry, after they won game five, I think that was the like 1 a.m. Like it was extra innings and everything, nobody was beating them. They were coming back the next day and they were kicking, kicking ass. Then they have number two, like I said, this is the top 10 greatest sports comebacks ever, according to Chat GPT. Uh number two, Muhammad Ali reclaiming the heavyweight title. I wasn't around, I wasn't alive, I don't know anything about it. But the number one answer, I wasn't alive for it, but I've I've researched it. They've made movies about it, they've written books about it, they've done documentaries about it, and I can agree. Like the the biggest or the best, the greatest sports comeback ever was American Ice. Team USA coming back, beating the Soviet Union. A week before the games, they lost like 10-3, or whatever it was. Like they got their asses kicked. Herb Brooks is ready to pull Jimmy Craig. They barely beat Finland or whoever it was in the first round. Like they tied them three, I think it was 3 3 or 2 2. They don't Bill Baker doesn't score that goal. They don't they don't even get to the middle round. And then to have to play the Soviets right away, that's hard. Then to come back and beat them, it's even harder. So I mean I can agree.
Hot Take On Debate Culture
SPEAKER_00with that I definitely would have had Patriots Falcons way higher on this list but let me know what you think tell me tell me what I missed tell me what you think give me give me one or two or three of your greatest sports comebacks that you think ever happened and we can go from there I can definitely shout it out on the next episode I can do a I can do a reel we can we can talk about it we can debate it whatever you want to do so hot take of the week most sports fans care more about debating sports than actually watching the games we're in such an era of instant gratification so I can go on my phone or my computer or ESPN or Fox Sports or whatever Fox radio uh ESPN radio and I don't have to watch the game I can watch highlights I can go to YouTube watch highlights and then I can debate you on it like who's better what team's better what team should have won they can just take snippets and clips of every single game every single sport and that's what people do now like nobody wants to sit and watch a if you're not a hardcore fan or you're you're not really into it you can just go out and watch reels and watch TikToks and watch whatever you want to watch in quick 10 5 10 15 minute or even 30 second increments you know social media has changed fandoms so much that nobody really knows what watching a whole game feels like I mean you don't have to anymore like I said you just don't have to you can just watch the highlights or watch snippets of it or you know anything like that and everybody wants to be the first with an opinion like anybody can jump on a podcast anybody can jump make a reel make a short make something like that and talk about it like that that's just kind of a new thing it just it it it just is and the debate culture off often overshadows the game itself you can have some people make such hot takes just off of one play just off of a paused replay that it kind of takes the takes the enjoyment out of watching a game like you not a lot of people watch the game to do that that they just they just want to debate it like debate culture they just want hot takes they just want to jump out and make stupid fucking opinions on stuff and it takes away from it and it makes it hard to hard to watch really hard to watch so we're I don't know I just it it's just a just a thought just a hot take I have argue me if you want and we'll go from there so let's go through our rough bunker minute here I want to know what you think I want you to like I said I want you to comment I want you to reach out and tell me what you would say in this rapid fire that I'm gonna have here what's your favorite sports movie quote now football for me right side strong side remember the Titans give them the give them the heater major league I mean there's there's way more you know you're killing me smalls Sanlon and I'm sure I'm missing something tell me yours tell me your favorite sports movie quote best sports logo a lot of people would say the Yankees it's just clean I'm sorry I hate the Yankees but it's clean pinstripes NY looks clean most overrated sport for me it's soccer I don't get it I know that's definitely gonna piss off some people it's the most popular sport in the world I I just I don't get it I I just I don't never played it just don't best stadium food I'm definitely a homer on that one that's gonna be a dome dog from the Metrodome the old metrodome if you could attend any sporting event what would it be for me man probably a Super Bowl would be one for me or the Masters now that I'm into golf because I I definitely would watch the Masters live I think it'd be fucking awesome it'd be such a great environment and then the Super Bowl just to kind of see what that's all about.
